At Coastal Social Work we offer a range of assessments, completed by qualified and experienced Social Workers.

Mental Capacity Assessments

Mental Capacity assessments refer to an assessment of a person's ability to make a specific decision. A person's ability to make decisions may be impaired due to a mental disorder or cognitive impairment and they may need support to make decisions. Coastal Social Work can support with assessments relating to various decisions, including:

  • Managing finances 
  • Care arrangements 
  • Appointing Lasting Power of Attorney 
  • The use of monitoring systems
  • Where to live 
  • Making a Will 

Social Care Assessments & Support Planning

Social care assessments will explore a person's care and support needs, creating a holistic assessment of the person and their social care needs, which can contribute towards various health and social care applications and care planning.


Coastal Social Work can offer support planning, including a brokerage service for domiciliary and residential/nursing care. 


We can assist you with the transition into care support, ensuring it is tailored to your needs. 

Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS)

Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS), ensures people who cannot consent to their care arrangements in a care home or hospital are protected if those arrangements deprive them of their liberty. A person who is being deprived of their liberty as a result of their care needs is entitled to legal safeguards. This is to make sure that the restrictions in place to keep them safe are appropriate and proportionate.

Deputyship Services

Support for professional deputies appointed by the Court of Protection, which may include regular monitoring visits and reports and mental capacity assessments. 



COP3 Forms

CoP3 forms are an assessment of capacity form for the purpose of a Court of Protection proceedings; including deputyship.

Information sessions

We are able to offer bespoke information sessions to provide advice and guidance on navigating social care systems, care planning, and Lasting Powers of Attorney. These sessions can be held in care homes or location of your choice.
